American Idol Season 6

We’ve seen one of the worst performances in season 6 audition by American Idol wanna be, Sarah Goldberg. No wonder as she never sung before. Never the less she had a unique appeal for the judges: “Even if I don’t sing, I can be the next American Idol.”

When Randy asked her why she was auditioning, Sarah goes:

“Listen to me. I am not a singer.
[judges: “Ohhhh, Wow, We agree”]
…you were shaking your heads entire time I was singing. Paula, you were looking at him and you were laughing at me.
[judges: so why are you here]
I. I am getting so emotional now. I am not a singer. You know, I realy like to sing. I realy do.
My friends make fun of me all the time because I am tone deaf. but…
[Randy: “yeah”]
Shut up. I don’t need to hear that.
Even if I don’t sing I can be the next American Idol.
[judges: “Why?]
And you know why. Because I never sung before.
So you can teach me how to sing.
[Huh?]
Yes. I can practice. I practice with music… I can’t believe I am crying so much.
I think you don’t have to sing to be an American Idol.
I really don’t. I think Paris Hilton can’t really sing.
[Randy: She is not an American Idol]
I am sure aware of that. I know you don’t realize it, ut I am a little bit smart here (pointing her finger to the head).
[Randy: Jst turn around. You see these 5 people. They are all great singers. This is a singing competition.
This is not a competition to find the best person who can’t sing but wants to sing]
You know Randy… Yes, these people can sing. Yes they can… but
I can be the only American Idol who has never sang before.
I am unique. Whoooooaaaaa.
[Randy: Sarah, I don’t think there s anything left to say. I think you said it all.
You are in the singing competition and you don’t sing.
What do you think we are going to say?].

That was it for Sarah. Three NOs on her way out. New York, New York, crazy sity that never sleeps.

Performance like this could not miss the great Larry King Live show the next Thursday where larry interiewed other famous rejects and contestants of American Idol including Wiliam Hank.

There was no one to be found on the city streets as everyone was in the line-up for American Idol auditions. The first contestant of the day seemed promising, considering he had an entire marching band and cheerleading squad to back him up. He actually wasn’t too bad, but not good enough to be on the show. When Simon starting telling him he hated it, he decided to start singing again. I don’t understand why contestants keep doing that. It’s really funny.

The editing team of American Idol does a really good job in making the show more entertaining by making fun of people. Also through out the show, I’ve noticed that a lot of singers, or people that call themselves singers, don’t annunciate their words, and half the time you have no clue what they are saying.

Something amazing happened in this show. Simon declared that one of the contestants, Jason “Sundance” Head, was going to be in the top two. His dad was actually a famous singer in the 60’s named Roy Head. He definitely doesn’t look like an American Idol, but somehow his personality and singing puts a smile on your face. He was the first person that really gave me chills. Simon even made a comment on how he blew Taylor Hicks (the winner from last season) out of the park.

One of the contestants claimed she liked to be sexy but not over the top. However, it was safe to say she was the exact opposite, and that we saw a little too much of her. Rather than sexy, she was sleazy and a little disturbing. She was indeed extremely terrible.

I found this episode to be much better in that there was a better balance between the bad and good singers. I really enjoy hearing amazing singers, and this show had more of them than the last two, including a woman named Melinda Doolittle. It was one of the few times Randy, Simon and Paula agreed on something. Simon was also a really big fan of her, but was a little worried with her nerves.

This episode also had an extremely endearing story of one of the male contestants. Philip Stacy’s wife had a baby the day of his audition, so he had to miss the birth. Luckily he had a decent voice, and they put him through. They showed a clip of him going to the hospital to meet his new baby girl. It was very sweet.

Memphis was definitely a success in my books. They also did a video montage of a bunch of terrible singers singing Elvis songs. Apparently, they thought singing his songs in his hometown would do them good. Very unoriginal.

“I know u probably get messages all day long. But im an American Idol contestant this year. I was eliminated already. didnt make tv, but got good reviews from Simon. I have been busting my butt trying to find someone to help get me started I have auditioned for several things. And no big or medium break. I write my songs, etc. I just need someone to give me a chance and i was wondering how much of a chance u would be willing to tie into me and get me started. If not interested thank you for adding me [as myspace friend]!! Ronnie “

The first audition was a man named Brandon Groves who had auditioned last season. I still remember him because he sang I shot the sheriff and the only line he sang was “I shot the sheriff.” This time he was dressed head to toe Uncle Sam style. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it through…

Then there was a girl who named herself “The Hotness.” She was actually the complete opposite, and it made me laugh at how delusional she was. And to top it off., she couldn’t even sing, and wouldn’t stop singing, even when Simon was yelling at her.

That was quite the trend today, as many contestants thought their chances of making it to Hollywood would increase if they just kept singing…and singing…and singing.

There was one contestant who I was really afraid of. He shouted DIE many times in a row with an angry face. I’m surprised the judges didn’t call security. He was scary.

My favorite contestant of the season so far was a lady named Darwin Reedy. You couldn’t help but laugh at her even though you felt bad. Her look was one of the most unusual things I’ve ever seen, and even worse, her mother looked exactly like her but with different colored hair. She talked in a monotone voice, and sang Pussycat dolls! Simon couldn’t even look at her, which I’ve noticed throughout the competition. I don’t think he likes unattractive people. It was quite the experience watching her and her mother.

There was a man who had a really wonderful voice. He had already auditioned twice before but didn’t make it, but he really blew me away this time. His name was Thomas Daniels, so watch out for him because his tone was amazing. Watching these first preliminary auditions, you don’t usually see a lot of the good people, but it’s such a treat when you hear someone who can actually sing.

You definitely see a lot of interesting talent on American Idol, including beat boxers. Blake Lewis, a 25 year old from Washington showed his beat boxing skills. He was actually very unique, and kind of reminded me of the Maroon five lead singer. He made it through to Hollywood, but only after Simon had called him obnoxious.

There was a brother and a sister who I thought were both very good. Luckily for them, they both made it through, with higher regards going to the brother. However, I thought the sister had a very amazing voice also.

One of the most impressive auditions came from a 16 year old. She sang Celine Dion, and completely rocked it.

They tend to do a lot of video montages of all the bad singers. They are actually really funny and add a lot of entertainment value to the show.

The beginning of the show was dedicated to explaining the successes of previous American Idol contestants, including Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood and more.

The first few shows of American idol are always interesting. You can hear people who are the most amazing singers you have ever heard, but can also hear things that can’t even be classified as singing. There are many of those auditions in the first show that I can’t even explain them all. The thing I wonder about most is how these people can be completely oblivious to their lack of talent.

For this first week, Randy, Simon and Paula will be joined by the well-known singer Jewel. They presented a blurb on her career, showing some clips of her music videos as well as her most popular songs. She seems like a very sweet person, and her voice is rather unique

The first audition started with a young girl named Jessica Rhode who claimed that her idol was Jewel. It was hard to expect anything bad of her as she seemed like a sweet girl. However, her singing was no where near perfect, and Simon sent her off with his infamous rude comments. Needless to say, she was heartbroken, and started crying in the audition room. It hard to watch someone’s dream go down the drain.

The show contained its share of interesting auditions as they turned down more than they let through. A man who called himself “Urban Omish,” sang a disturbing song which included the line “and your spit drips into my face.” He disturbed me quite a lot, and required me to fast forward through his audition. Other weird auditions included a guy who left his audition to get a sip of water, and came back five minutes later, a man with scary bug eyes dressed head to toe in American stars and stripes, and a girl obsessed with the Wizard of Oz.

There were very few good people, two of which was sixteen year old Denise Jackson and nineteen year old Michelle Steingas. They both had amazing voices considering their ages. Watching them makes the show worthwhile. There were actually more girls than they showed going through to Hollywood than men. However, one of my favorite contestants was Jarrod Fowler who was an intelligence specialist in the US Navy. He sang “God Bless the Broken Road,” and sang it very beautifully I might add.

All in all, the show involved a lot of laughing coming from Randy, and a lot of rude comments from Simon. Jewel and Paula were of course a little nicer and quieter. Randy especially got a little nasty with a vocal teacher who auditioned. It was almost borderline unacceptable.

Another one of my favorites was a sixteen year old boy named Matt Sato. He was really inspiring because he came to audition without the support of his parents. He did an awesome job and got through to Hollywood. He was so sincere and cute.
