American Idol is Taylor Hicks
The Show began with Carrie Underwood singing with the two contestants (Carrie is the American Idol winner from last year.) Later in the song, the top 12 idolists join them. A choir accompanied them, all dressed in black, and the idolists were all wearing white which looked really cool.
Ben Stiller and Heather Locklear are in the audience tonight.
After the performance, Ryan introduced the three judges, along with clips from some of their moments from this years show. I must admit that Simon’s video was by far the funniest. I wish everyone could have seen it. Every clip was of him touching his face. He always has his hands on his chin or lips as if he is thinking.
Paris Bennett sings with Al Jarome (I’m not really too sure who he is.) I like Paris’ cute curly bob, but I really don’t like her outfit. After listening to her, I realized that I forgot how good she is.
Chris Daughtry sings with his favorite band, “Live.” My mom said right from the beginning that Chris would be better in a band rather than a solo artist, and after hearing this performance, I think she’s right. He’s a rocker who needs a band, and I can’t wait until he comes out with an album.
After these performances, they showed a video of Kelly Pickler in a restaurant. I was laughing so hard. Kelly is hilarious. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone with a personality quite like hers. She was meeting with a chef to learn about some types of foods, and how to pronounce them, because she was made fun of for saying calamari wrong. The chef forced her to eat escargot when she really didn’t want to, so she put it in her mouth and then gagged. After that she turns around and spits it into a napkin. The way she did it made it really funny. And she also called the escargot “es-car-go-tee.”
Katharine then sings with Meat Loaf. At first when Meat Loaf sang, I didn’t know what was going on. It was one of the oddest things I’ve ever heard. When Katharine started singing, she sounded amazing. As the song progressed it got better and better. It was a good in a weird kind of way I guess. Katharine looked really pretty except her dress showed a little too much of her chest.
After the commercial break, Ryan announced that they were beginning to have the “Golden Idol Awards.” It was basically a joke to make fun of all of the bad auditions of the season. It was really funny to look back and watch some of the worst singers of the season.
After that they went back to Kelly Pickler in the restaurant, and they brought her a live lobster and she fell off her chair from fright. I know I say this a lot, but it was really funny. She said she is afraid of food with eyes.
Next, it was all the top guy’s turn to sing a medley. At one point, Taylor came out and played the harmonica. It was really cool. I loved seeing them all together again. There was a final Ford commercial that was a combination of all the past Ford commercials. It was pretty cool.
Katharine and Taylor both got new Ford Mustangs. Lucky people.
The next Golden Idol award was the sweetest family moment. It was between Chris’ wife, Katharine’s Dad, and Elliott’s mom. Elliott’s Mom won. It was a very cute moment. After they awarded her with her trophy, Ryan announced that it was Elliott’s turn to sing. He is just so amazing. His voice is unlike any of the other competitors. I fell in love with Elliott as the competition progressed. After a while, Elliott introduced Mary J Blige. It was, yet again, another awesome performance.
Carrie Underwood then sang one of her songs. She is very good, and they announce that she won two awards at the Country Music Awards last night.
It was time for another performance. This time though it was Taylor and Toni Braxton. Taylor sounded amazing, but Toni sounded a little weird. Either her mike wasn’t working or she didn’t know the words, I just didn’t hear a single word she sang. She sounded terrible.
The next performance was all of the top 6 girls. I really liked Lisa Tucker’s outfit. Paris sang the main chorus of “Natural Woman” and it sounded amazing. The rest of the performance was good, but I think I liked the guys better.
The next Golden Idol award was the best of the night. It was the best impersonation, and the award went to the Clay Aiken look alike. He was actually at the awards and decided to sing for the audience. As he begins his terrible song, Clay Aiken comes out of the back and starts singing with him. The guy’s reaction was priceless. I think he was in complete shock. It’s hard to explain what he did, but just trust the fact that it is hilarious.
Burt Bacharach then accompanies the final 12 idolists on the piano. It was a sweet performance. All of the girls were wearing red dressed, and the guys in black tuxes. Kelly Pickler had a little solo, and she sounded good, but I still think she should stick to country. Then Bucky had a solo. I really wish he would cut his hair. It looks quite disgusting. Of course all of them sounded amazing, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be Elliott. I think it helped that he had a song I love. After all of the idolists had their parts, Dionne Warwick was introduced. She sang “Walk on By,” among other songs. Of course she is amazing, but it wasn’t really my style. I didn’t really enjoy it.
The next Golden Idol was “best male bonding” and it went to the three cowboys from Hollywood. If you never saw them, they were alright, but not quite good enough. They all found each other in Hollywood and became good friends, and they made a video making fun of them called “Brokenote Mountain.” They actually sounded a lot better than I expected.
Next was a performance by the one and only Prince. You either like Prince or you don’t, but his performance was wicked. It was classic Prince. It was really entertaining. After Prince, Taylor and Katharine sang. Katharine’s dress was so beautiful. She looked stunning. Taylor looked really good too in all black. I can’t believe how many outfits they go through in a night. This is by far the most entertaining finale of all the American Idol seasons.
Finally, it was results time. After a moment filled with tension, Ryan announced the winner of American Idol: Season 5 to be…Taylor Hicks!
